In barrel racing three barrels are placed in a triangle with sides of 105 ft/30 m and a base of 149 ft/45 m. The racers enter the arena at full speed and run a cloverleaf pattern around the barrels. The fastest time this day was 17.24 sec. Theoretically the total distance is 510 ft/155 m. In practice the travel lines curve and are longer. Barrel racing is one of the few women's events in rodeo. A good rodeo horse can cost up to $200,000 (USD).
