About this spot
This monument to Sir Stamford Raffles depicts Singapore's founder with arms folded and looking thoughtfully out to sea. The marble statue is now surrounded by towering skyscrapers of gleaming chrome and glass, whereas in 1819 this is the spot where Raffles is believed to first set foot on the island.
