About this spot
Just 30 km from Lisbon is the charming town of Sintra. Nestled in the cooling hills of the Serra de Sintra, the city is a perfect day trip from Lisbon. The main attraction in town is the Palacio Nacional Sintra. This is a great town to walk and explore. Sao Martinho Church is only a couple of minutes from the palace and beautiful tile work can be seen on the buildings throughout town.

Sintra was the playground of Portugal’s 19th century rich and that explains all the palaces, castles, country estates and villas. Be sure and stop at the Casa Piriquita. The bakery was founded in 1862 and is famous for its travesseiros—puffy pastry pillow filled with egg yolks and almond cream.

Close to town is Pena Palace, Quinta da Regaleira, Monserrate Palace, and the Convent of the Capuchos.
