About this spot
This spot is for me one of the most iconic point of view of Paris with the view to the island of the Cîté and the Cathedral Notre Dame of Paris. Depending on the focal length used, you would also take the banks of the Seine, as well as the Hausmanian buildings along the Seine.
The Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and, for many centuries, it was one of the largest cathedrals in the West. Long the tallest building in the city, it is one of the most emblematic monuments of Paris.
Its construction spanned more than two centuries, from 1163 to the mid-fourteenth century. Between 1844 and 1864, it benefited from a major restoration, sometimes controversial, under the direction of the architect Viollet-le-Duc. The two rosettes, which adorn each of the arms of the transept, are among the largest in Europe.
Notre-Dame is visited each year by some 13 to 14 million people and is the most visited monument in Europe and one of the most visited in the world until 2019.
On April 15, 2019, a violent fire destroyed the spire and the entire roof covering the nave, the choir and the transept. It is the largest disaster suffered by the cathedral since its construction. Since then, the cathedral has been closed to the public for an indefinite period and unfortunately, this spot no longer possible.
But on the positive side, the work is underway and I hope with all my heart that we will be able to take advantage of it again soon.
