About this spot
Shining Tor is the highest point in Cheshire, rising above the moors of the Cat and Fiddle. It provides views down to Cheshire including sights such as the Jodrell Bank Radioscope.
Views can even stretch as far as Snowdonia on the clearest of days. The best view, however, is perhaps towards Shutlingsloe, due to its distinctive profile. It rises sharply out of the seemingly never-ending moorland and is locally referred to as ‘The Matterhorn of Cheshire’. The description is maybe a little farfetched
but no one can deny its prominence.

Most people associate Cheshire as flatland, the truth is the Cheshire Peak District boasts plenty of upland, with Shining Tor at 559m being in the
top 10 Peak District peaks in terms of height.
