This airbase is located at the border between Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. It is recommended to talk to the police before visiting the airbase. You can ask at the nearby border crossing who to talk to. It is important to follow the rules and follow instructions of the border police. If you go there unannounced you risk a fine.

Drones are not a good idea.

The area is still contaminated with land mines from the 90s war. Stick to the paved surfaces and you will be fine.

About this spot
Željava airbase is Former Yugoslavia's underground military airbase. It was built in 50s and 60s and it was abandoned after the breakup of Yugoslavia.

There were four underground exits from where fighter jets could fly out directly and it was sealed to survive a possible nuclear attack.
