About this spot
The Virginia Creeper Trial is a 34.3 mi/55.2 km hiking/bicycle/horse riding trial between Whitetop and Abingdon, VA. Built on an old rail bed the trail runs though national forest and private lands. it is mostly downhill for the 17 mi/27.6 km from Whitetop to Damascus. From Damascus to Abingdon the trail gains a small amount of altitude over a similar distance. This makes the easier downhill section a much more popular and crowded section of the trail. The trail winds through and along hills, ravines, streams, roads, and trials. There is a wealth of photogrpahy opportunities. There are 47 trestles and bridges which also provide interesting photo opportunities.
