About this spot
Brownsea Castle is a device fort built under Henry V111 reign primarily to protect Poole harbour from French invaders . The castle was built 1545-1547 and was occupied by parliament during the civil war . The castle is now owned by the National Trust. There is an entrance fee for non NT members.
