About this spot
Beautifully maintained by The Commonwealth War Graves Commission and very moving location.

This cemetery was begun in 1951 to receive battlefield cemeteries from sites at Akyab, Mandalay, Meiktila and Sahmaw (a Chindit location containing many of those who died in the battle for Myitkyina) which were difficult to access and could not be maintained.

There are now 6389 World War Two Commonwealth service personnel buried or commemorated here.

There is also the Rangoon memorial which bears the names of almost 27,000 men of the Commonwealth land forces who have no known grave.
