About this spot
The town of Polotsk is one of the most ancient towns founded by West Slavs. Its favorable geographical location on trade routes promoted the rapid economical and cultural development. In the 12C outstanding examples of architecture of the period St. Sofia Cathedral and Savior Transfiguration Church were constructed.
The Saviour Transfiguration Church is a monument of ancient Russian architecture. It was built between 1152-1161.
