About this spot
Soroca Fortress is a historic and architectural landmark situated in the town of Soroca, Moldova, on the right bank of the Dniester River. Built in the 15th century as a wooden fortification, the fortress was later reconstructed in stone by the Moldovan ruler Stephen the Great in 1543 to protect against Ottoman invasions. The fortress features a unique circular design, with five imposing towers and thick walls that have withstood the test of time. As an important bastion of Moldova's medieval defense system, Soroca Fortress has played a significant role in the region's history and today stands as a symbol of national pride, attracting tourists and history enthusiasts from around the world.
