About this spot
Pointe de Saint-Mathieu is a stunning headland located on the west coast of the Finistère department in Brittany, France overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

The Pointe de Saint-Mathieu is known for its natural beauty and historical significance. The headland is home to the ruins of an ancient abbey, the Abbaye Saint-Mathieu de Fine-Terre, which dates back to the 6th century. The abbey was destroyed during the French Revolution, but its remains still provide a fascinating glimpse into the region's rich history.

In addition to the abbey ruins, the Pointe de Saint-Mathieu is also home to a lighthouse that was built in the 19th century to guide ships along the rocky coastline. The lighthouse offers stunning views of the surrounding area, including the rugged cliffs and crashing waves of the Atlantic.
