About this spot
During the Soviet period, the square was called Lenin Square and was home to a statue of its namesake. Military parades would take place, until 1988.
After Armenia gained independence, the statue was removed, and it was renamed to Republic Square.

A vast space, the 3 hectares can be split into two - a large oval traffic roundabout, and at the northern side, a plaza complete with impressive fountains.
