About this spot
The Radiotelescope Effelsberg is a large radio telescope located in Effelsberg, Germany, operated by the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. With a diameter of 100 meters and an aperture of 100-110 m, it is one of the largest fully steerable radio telescopes in the world and is used for a wide range of astronomical observations, including studies of pulsars, black holes, and the interstellar medium. The telescope has made numerous important discoveries, such as the first direct detection of gravitational waves from a binary neutron star merger and the detection of the first exoplanet using the radio transit method.
