About this spot
The Rab concentration camp, also known as Kampor, was an Italian-run concentration camp during World War II, located on the island of Rab in modern-day Croatia. It was established in July 1942, during the period of Italy's control over the Adriatic Littoral Zone. The camp primarily held Slovenes, Croats, and Jews, many of whom were political dissidents. Harsh conditions, including overcrowding, inadequate shelter, and scarcity of food, led to many deaths. After Italy's surrender in 1943, the camp was dismantled and its surviving inmates were liberated or transferred to other camps. Rab concentration camp is a testament to the brutal realities of war and ethnic persecution, and its memory is preserved today as a symbol of the resilience of those who endured its horrors.
