About this spot
The Palau del Lloctinent is situated in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, one of the oldest and most historic neighborhoods in the city. The palace is a fine example of Renaissance architecture and is characterized by its ornate façade, which features intricate details and decorative elements. It was constructed in the 16th century. The palace was built as the residence for the lieutenant (Lloctinent in Catalan) of Catalonia, serving as the official representative of the Spanish monarch in the region during the Habsburg dynasty. It was a symbol of royal authority and housed various governmental functions.
