About this spot
The Vieille Bourse was constructed between 1652 and 1653, during the Spanish occupation of Lille. It was designed by architect Julien Destrée and initially served as a trading center for merchants and stockbrokers.

The Vieille Bourse de Lille is a prime example of Flemish Renaissance architecture. The building consists of four wings that surround a central courtyard, creating an open square in the middle. Each wing features rows of arcades with ornate columns and balustrades. The arcades are adorned with intricate sculptures, including allegorical figures, masks, and garlands. The façades exhibit a harmonious blend of classical and baroque architectural elements.

The central courtyard of the Vieille Bourse de Lille is the focal point of the building. It is a picturesque square with a symmetrical layout. The courtyard is adorned with a decorative fountain, statues, and flower beds. Today, the courtyard serves as a lively meeting place and a venue for various cultural events, such as book fairs and art exhibitions.
