About this spot
The Old Lower lighthouse worked alongside its more famous sibling Portland Bill before it was decommissioned in 1906. The lighthouse has been rebuilt twice 1789/1868 and has been a grade11 listed building since September 1978. It is now home to the Portland Birds Observatory and field centre. IT’s vegetated garden is one of the few on exposed Portland Bill and as such attracts many bird species.
