About this spot
Hosios Loukas is a walled Byzantine monastery. The highlight of the monastery are the two adjoining churches - the old one built in the 10th century and the "new" one built in the 11th century. Beneath the new church is the Crypt of St. Barbara, which also contains wonderful, old frescoes. The monastery is one of the finest examples of Byzantine architecture and art in Greece and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
