About this spot
La Boqueria, officially known as Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, is one of Barcelona's most iconic and renowned food markets. Located just off La Rambla, one of the city's main boulevards, La Boqueria is a bustling and vibrant market that offers a diverse array of fresh food, local produce, and culinary delights.
La Boqueria has a rich history dating back to the 13th century when it began as an open-air market near the city's old gate, or "bocaria" in Catalan, which is where its name "Boqueria" is derived from. Over the centuries, it evolved and expanded into the covered market we see today.
Inside the market, there are numerous food stalls and small eateries where you can enjoy freshly prepared tapas, seafood dishes, Catalan specialties, and other delectable treats. It's a fantastic place to sample authentic local cuisine.
