Only for experienced mountaineers. The trail to this location is technically demanding and a proper winter gear is highly recommended.

About this spot
Matkov Kot valley is one of the wildest, least visited valleys of Slovenian Alps. It is located on the north side of Kamnik-Savinja Alps, near Austrian border. One of the notable features of the valley is Matkov Škaf, an enormous snow “cave” filled by an avalanche in the winter, which often doesn’t melt until well into the summer.

The meaning of the name translates into "Matk's bucket". Matk is the family name of the oldest farmhouse of the valley. This is still an active farmhouse, where one can stay overnight and have a nice organic meal. They also make wonderful homemade ice cream of goat milk.
