About this spot
Marsianskaya Dolina (Марсианская Долина) or Martian Valley, a popular attraction in the Altay Mountains, features a multicolored slope in the Kyzyl Chin valley due to the presence of various metal compounds. The landscape predominantly displays shades of red and yellow, with other colors appearing under different lighting conditions. Geologists believe the unique relief and soil composition formed hundreds of millions of years ago at the bottom of a prehistoric ocean. The red color results from iron oxide, while other metals such as chromium, manganese, titanium, tin, and niobium contribute to the diverse color palette.
