The Black Valley is the last place in Ireland to get Electricity . It is situated west of its nearest town of Killarney , 30-40 minutes drive depending on traffic and conditions . The most direct route is through The Gap of Dunloe which opens into the valley . Lots of opportunity from wide angle to telephoto . If the weather is calm you can get beautiful reflections . You are surrounded by mountains on all sides . A river runs between the lakes in the valley and continues towards Killarney . This is one of the most picturesque areas around Killarney . Killarney also has a national park that is well worth a visit .
