About this spot
Pulau Kalong, often referred to as "Bat Island," is another intriguing destination within the Komodo National Park, near Flores Island in Indonesia. The island gets its name from the Indonesian word "kalong," meaning "flying fox," due to the large colony of flying foxes (a type of large bat) that reside there.

Pulau Kalong is uninhabited by humans and is covered in mangrove forests, which provide the perfect habitat for the flying foxes. These bats are known for their impressive wingspans and are actually fruit bats, feeding primarily on fruits.

One of the most spectacular sights at Pulau Kalong is the evening exodus of the flying foxes. At sunset, visitors can witness thousands of these bats leaving the island in search of food. The sky becomes filled with the silhouettes of flying foxes, creating a breathtaking natural phenomenon that attracts nature lovers and photographers from around the world.
