About this spot
Kodachrome Basin State Park is home to a wonderland of colorful rock and 69 towering sandstone chimneys or sandpipes. These usual rock spires range form 6 to 170 feet in height and jut up out of the rock or valley floor at random locations. The park is noted for its color and contrast, which prompted the National Geographic Society to name the the basin after the famous Kodachrome slide film in 1948.
Angel's Palace Trail is a 1.5-mile roundtrip trail with an elevation gain of about 150 feet which provides great views of the basin and many of the sandpipes.
