About this spot
Billed as the lock with the second highest waterfall in Belgium, the lock 5F of Ittre in Walloon Brabant offers its history to visitors , as well as a large number of rural and sports activities. Inaugurated in 1832, the Charleroi-Bruxelles canal is the result of a long story dating back to the 16th century during the reign of Philippe II. At that time the idea came up to connect the river basin of the Meuse to that of the Scheldt by a navigable canal from Bruxelles. Today the canal is an opening to France, the Netherlands and Germany.
