About this spot
Haile Sand Fort is one of 2 forts, the other being Bull Sand Fort. Built off the Lincolnshire coast and operational by 1917. Haille is a four storey fort covered with steel armour, built to protect the Humber Estuary from enemy attack. Both forts were decommissioned in 1956. Haille Sand Fort is approximately 500 metres from the store line. It is inadvisable to attempt to walk to it. Incoming tides are very fast and there is mud when the tide is out. Haille is visible from Cleethorpes, but the best photo opportunity is from The Fitties Beach, further up the coast.
