About this spot
Mount Kelimutu is a small but famous volcano located in central Flores Island of Indonesia. This stratovolcano is known for its summit, which contains three crater lakes each possessing a different and distinct color. The colors of the lakes have been known to change over time due to varying levels of dissolved minerals and chemical reactions, adding an element of mystery to the volcanic region. The names of the lakes are Tiwu Ata Mbupu (Lake of Old People), Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai (Lake of Young Men and Maidens), and Tiwu Ata Polo (Bewitched Lake). Mount Kelimutu is a significant location in the local people's belief system, where it is thought that the souls of the deceased reside in these lakes. The stunning beauty and unique nature of the lakes make it a popular destination for tourists from around the world.
