About this spot
If you enter Galataport from Tophane direction, Tophane Clock Tower, also known as Nusretiye Clock Tower, will welcome you at Tophane Square. One of the most beautiful clock towers of Istanbul, the tower was built by Sultan Abdülmecid in the second half of the 19th century. The tower was built in neoclassical style and there is Abdülmecid's monogram on the door facing the sea. The tower, which was on the seashore at the time it was built, leaned towards the sea by 1.5 degrees due to the weight of the starboard pole and the unstable ground where it was located. I think the tower, which has been restored and cleaned with Galataport works, preserves the beauty of the first day.
