About this spot
The castle is renowned for its well-preserved architecture, beautiful gardens, and rich history dating back over 700 years.

The origins of Gaasbeek Castle can be traced back to the 13th century when it was initially constructed as a simple fortified stronghold. Over the centuries, it underwent several transformations and expansions under the ownership of different noble families. One of the most notable owners was the Egmond family, who held the castle during the 16th century.

In the 19th century, the castle underwent a significant restoration and renovation project under the guidance of the then owner, Marquis Arconati Visconti. He transformed the castle into a romantic neo-Gothic style, which gives it the fairy-tale appearance it maintains today.

Gaasbeek Castle is now owned by the Flemish Community and has been opened to the public as a museum. Visitors can explore its well-preserved rooms, adorned with historical furniture, artwork, and other artifacts, offering an insight into the life of the castle's former inhabitants.

The surrounding gardens and parkland are also an essential part of the castle's charm. They have been meticulously landscaped and maintained, adding to the beauty of the estate.
