About this spot
Fruita is a former town insidt Capitol Reef National Park. The town was established in 1880 by a group of Mormons along the Fremont River. Few buildings remain today, but the orchards planted by the pioneers remain, now owned and managed by the National Park Service and preserved as a "historic landscape." Fruit from the orchard is available on a u-pick basis with self-serve pay stations. Fruits grown a the park include apples, cherries, apricots, pears, peaches, plums, and mullberries. There are also almond and walnut trees. Fruita is also the headquarters for the park.
