About this spot
Locksmith Street and its Faces, Ljubljana, Slovenia

There was once a poet called Rainer Maria Rilke in this region. He wrote a fabulous piece that started with a line about how there is no awareness of how many faces are there. Since every person has many faces… Very deep, what?

The Faces of Locksmith Street
A famous sculptor from Slovenia called Jakov Brdar took inspiration from this and created a surreal scene… Greek mythology very often inspired his work. About 700 very expressive faces, some happy, some sad, some crying and so on. These are all sculpted in bronze are arranged along a gully cutting through the middle of a cobbled street. They all lead up to a drinking fountain and some random sculptures like a skeleton trapped in a cage.

The Faces of Locksmith Street
These are the famous “Faces of Locksmith Street”! On Ključavničarska ulica, or “Locksmith Street”. It is a narrow gully in the medieval old town of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.
