About this spot
Chiremba / Epworth Balancing Rocks are a unique geological formation located southeast of Harare. These rocks are known for their peculiar arrangement, as they appear to precariously balance on top of one another, creating visually striking and seemingly gravity-defying formations. The phenomenon is a result of natural processes such as erosion, weathering, and the differential hardness of the rock layers. The Balancing Rocks have become a symbol of Zimbabwe, even featuring on the country's banknotes. They attract tourists and locals alike who marvel at the remarkable stability of the structures and the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Chiremba / Epworth balancing rocks were declared a National monument in 1994 and according to the National Museum and Monuments website they symbolize the peace and stability of the nation’s economy. This seems rather ironic as they appear on the one hundred trillion Dollar note shown above, a victim of the inflationary period in 2008-9; a period of great instability for Zimbabwe
