About this spot
Crane houses (Kranhäuser) in Cologne, Germany, are a set of three architecturally unique and modern buildings located in the Rheinauhafen district, a redeveloped urban area along the Rhine River. These buildings, designed by Hadi Teherani, a Hamburg-based architect of Iranian descent, were completed between 2006 and 2008.

The crane houses get their name from their distinctive shape, which resembles harbor cranes used for loading and unloading cargo. The design of the buildings pays homage to the area's industrial past, as Rheinauhafen was once a bustling commercial harbor in Cologne.
