About this spot
The Community Baboon Sanctuary is a NGO dedicated to the conservation of black howler monkeys (known locally as baboons - there are no true baboons in Belize). It is a community-based conservation effort where landowners in seven communities in the Belize River Valley pledge to keep portions of their land undeveloped to provide habitat for black howler monkeys. At the organizations headquarters in Bermudian Landing, there is a small museum. From here, trained guides lead tours (for a small fee) in the jungle near the museum searching for howler monkeys and describing traditional rainforest medicine as well as local fauna.
