About this spot
Just a few kilometers away from SaPa is Cat Cat Village. Its name comes from the French name of the nearby waterfall—CatScat. The Hmong people founded the village at the foot of the Hoang Lien Son mountain range in the 19th century. When the French discovered the village, they developed it as a vacation resort to escape the heat of Hanoi.

The village is small—approximately 80 households. A typical house has three rooms with space for an altar, food storage, cooking and sleeping. The market is along the main road where the Hmong sell handicrafts (silver, copper, aluminum jewelry), corn wine and clothing to tourists as they make their way to the Tien Sa waterfall.

The town has a stunning view of the rice field terraces. The fields change color with the seasons—lush green from April to the end of May, and bright yellow in September. There are three streams—Tien Sa, Golden and Silver—that flow into Cat Cat Falls.
