United Kingdom Castle Acre - Castle ruins

About this spot
The castle here reached its peak, with a highly fortified keep, around 1200. However, excavations suggest it started out life more as a residential building as early as 1080. Although not much remains of the buildings, there's enough stone walls to give a good impression of the site, and the large earthworks still demonstrate the scale of what used to be here.
