About this spot
Castello Aragonese (Taranto castle) dates back to Greek times. The current form was more or less built in 15th century when it was controlled by Aragonese and Spanish. The main purpose of the castle was to defend the port of Taranto, which was a thriving city, located on a small island. Nowadays, the castle is run by Italian Navy and is partially open to visitors.
