About this spot
The origins of Beloeil Castle can be traced back to the 14th century, although the exact date of its construction remains uncertain. It has been the residence of the powerful and prestigious Ligne family since the 14th century, and the estate has been passed down through generations of the family.

The castle underwent significant transformations and expansions over the centuries, with various architectural styles incorporated into its design. The result is an eclectic blend of Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical elements, making Beloeil Castle a fascinating architectural masterpiece.

The estate's gardens are equally renowned and are often referred to as the "Versailles of Belgium." The French-style gardens were laid out in the 17th century and cover a vast area of approximately 25 hectares. These gardens are beautifully landscaped with symmetrical patterns, decorative fountains, charming ponds, and sculpted hedges, creating a picturesque and tranquil setting.

Today, Beloeil Castle remains in the ownership of the Ligne family, and the current resident is Prince Michel of Ligne. The castle is partially open to the public, allowing visitors to explore the splendid rooms, extensive art collections, and beautiful gardens.
