Opened in 1936, this impressive double-decked suspension and cantilever bridge spans approximately 4.5 miles across the San Francisco Bay, carrying over 260,000 vehicles daily on its Interstate 80 route. The bridge consists of two major sections: the western suspension span, with its iconic towers, and the eastern self-anchored suspension span, which was replaced in 2013 after the original cantilever section suffered damage in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
