About this spot
The Avon Gorge hotel is a fascinating Grade II listed building that dates back to 1898. This grand Victorian property was initially known as the Grand Clifton Spa and Hydropathic Institution, which used to take waters from the hot springs below Clifton. Victorian guests were aided by a water-powered funicular railway that transported them up the gorge. Even today, you can still see the disused station entrance, which closed in 1934, next to the hotel.
The hotels terrace open most of the year (depending on the weather) offers amazing views of the River Avon and the nearby Clifton Suspension Bridge.
