About this spot
Designed by Anthony Gormley, the Angel of the North was completed in 1998 and is believed to be the largest statue or sculpture of an angel in the world.
It stands 20m tall and 54m wide, and the design of the wings with vertical ribs means it can withstand winds up to 100mph.
