About this spot
Ambergris Caye is the largest island in Belize. The Belize Barrier Reef, part of the second longest barrier reef in the world, is about 300 meters offshore east of the island (known as the “ocean” side but really the Caribbean Sea). San Pedro Town is the largest town on the island, with a population of about 16,000. It is located on the southern end of the island and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Belize, largely because of the reef and its protected areas such as the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley. Snorkeling and scuba diving are popular pastimes. The town proper is about two miles long, but a road along the shoreline extends north of the town for several miles as well as south to the very southern tip of the island.
