About this spot
Agios Sozomenos is a deserted village in Cyprus, not too far from Potamia. It lies close to the "green line" southeast of Nicosia. In 1964, fighting broke out between Greek and Turkish Cypriots, resulting in 13 deaths. The village was subsequently abandoned. The most impressive structure is the never-completed church of St Mamas. A little way outside the site, a cave-chapel can be found.
