The Fes medina is the largest car-free urban area in the world and home to a quarter of a million people. It's a chaotic and claustrophobic labyrinth of narrow, winding alleyways abuzz with the local Fassis going about their business - a crazy mess of flat topped houses and ramshackle stalls selling everything from junk to beautiful hand-made treasures. It feels as though that life here is as it has been for hundreds of years.
