Fort Casey State Park

Constructed in the late 1800s, Fort Casey was equipped for defense and used as a training facility up to the mid-1940s. The fort houses a pair of rare 10-inch disappearing guns. While the guns were the height of technology in the early 1900s, improvements in warships and the advent of airplanes soon rendered them obsolete. Two additional 3-inch mounted guns are also on display in their original emplacements. You can explore these batteries to your heart’s content.

The two 10-inch guns on disappearing carriages currently mounted at Fort Casey were transferred from the Philippines in the 1960s, along with two three-inch guns. The 10-inch guns are M1895MI (No. 26 and No. 28 Watervliet) on disappearing carriages M1901 (No. 13 and No. 15 Watertown) at Battery Worth, Fort Casey (originally at Battery Warwick, Fort Wint, Grande Island, Philippines). Take note of the deep pitting on the entire outside of the gun and mount. Yes, this was caused by shrapnel!

Moses Coulee is the second-largest and westernmost canyon of the Channeled Scablands, located about 30 kilometres (19 mi) to the west of the larger Grand Coulee. This water channel is now dry, but during glacial periods, large outburst floods with discharges greater than 600,000 m3/s (21,000,000 cu ft/s) carved the channel. This cabin can be found along US 97 across the street from Mineral Springs Cafe. It used to be a miner's cabin. It belonged to the cafe for awhile. Now the US Forest is evaluating the site for a potential project.

I had noticed a train go by me the day before and looked surprisingly like what I see here. NOW I know what it was; these are parts to building those giant windmills. Look off into the distance and you can see where they might be going. This train was offloading right next to the aircraft in storage.
