About This Spot

The Begijnhof (Beguinage) or “Ten Wijngaarde” is a delight of classical space and a true winner of the “Beautiful Brugge” competition for old world beauty. This was once the home of the beguines, emancipated lay-women who nevertheless led a pious and celibate life. It is currently inhabited by the nuns of the Order of St Benedictus.
This is a peaceful (but popular!) place. Visitors are requested to respect the silence, but, despite the signs, photography is permitted as long as you’re very respectful of the nuns living there and property itself. No spoiling the grass please.
