About this spot
A beach? In the middle of the city? Yes, indeed. Around low tide, swing open the low blue gate next to Festival Pier and take the wide granite steps down to the tiny strip of sand and shingle. Watch the steps if the tide has only just retreated, as they can be slippery with wet sand. It is most definitely an urban beach, with the occasional bit of plastic and other flotsam and jetsam deposited by the tide, but the whiff of the sea, marvelous views across the river, and momentary peace and quiet.
