Shoot with care
Be respectful of market traders - they may not all appreciate photos. Establish a rapport where you can, gain permission for a shot (even if with a nod and a smile!) or make a purchase to show you are giving back.

About this spot
At first, fish was sold on one of the Markt’s corners, but as the townspeople complained about the stench, the fishmongers were forced to move and sell their wares here. In the covered arcade (1821 - city architect Jean-Robert Calloigne)), specially erected for the purpose of selling fish, fresh seafish was sold, a delicacy that only the rich could afford. Today you can still buy your fresh saltwater fish here every morning from Tuesday to Saturday. The Classical colonnade is now considered the oldest preserved fish market in Belgium.

Nowadays, the stone fishstands are conveniently used by artists to showcase and sell there artwork.
