About this spot
Turf Fen mill is another example of the drainage mills found across the Norfolk Broads, and is in relatively good condition, still sporting 4 sail arms. Built in the late 1800s (1875-1880) it drained the land west of the River Ant so that livestock could graze the marsh, and it went out of service in 1920. In the 1970s, restoration began.
A little way further north along the river, you will find Boardmans' Mill. This is of a much less common "trestle" design, built in 1897. This design was cheaper to make than the brick construction of Turf Fen.
A little further north still, you will find Clayrack Mill. Another unusual design, this was moved here in 1981 to preserve it from it's original location a few miles south.
